Rode mini Boom Pole any good?

Rode's poles aren't entirely horrible, but I'd look for something better. K-Tek has some very inexpensive aluminum poles. Gitzo has at least two carbon fiber booms under $200 US. Unless you really need a very short boom, go long. 10 feet or so would be okay to start with. If you end up doing lots of dramatic stuff, you'll eventually need something longer than that in your kit as well.

Rode boom poles are horrible! Heavy, aluminum made so very prone to handling noise, and with useless locks.

Mine went from first experiences in sound directly to image, and now it serves to hang a chinese lantern.

The best boom poles I've seen for the money are 6X carbon Gitzos as JordanBlock also suggests. Spend the money wisely or you end spending it twice!...

I have a large Røde boompole for the off-chance of needing super long reach with a boom pole support in a c-stand - it also sees use as a super-long boom arm for flashguns/strobes for photography (with a 1/4" adapter). Otherwise I have no use for it, and will reach for my aluminum K-Tek (sorry, on a budget) every single time. The Røde foam grip is nice but irrelevant - it's not long enough for both hands during normal use.

Well, I own a Large Rode Boompole and it´s really prone to handling noises.. you should be carefully. I really can´t tell about Ktek or Gitzo booms, but for what I heard, they´re better for the buck.

Best Regards.
Fernando
