Rode Boom Pole owners..is the top supposed to rotate so easily?

Hello all,

I recently got a Rode Boom Pole. The 3/8" copper color screw piece that connects to my mic rotates very easily left and right. Is this normal?

I noticed that the guy who sold me it (or myself) perhaps lost the 3/8" rubber gasket on the top. No biggie but I'm wondering if simply replacing it will do the trick. I have a feeling not, since the part that is loose is because it doesn't screw into anything. If you take off the top, you notice this 3/8" piece just kind of rests on the pole and is only made attached by the black cylinder covering.

You can tighten the end stage of the pole like you do for the extending stages of the pole.

Hi George, I have tried tightening it secure but no matter what it still has some play. It doesn't seem to be connected to the end stage of the pole for some reason.

I'm not familiar with the Rode boom but, have your tried screwing the 3/8" stud in to see if it 'seats'. Otherwise any mechanically inclined person would put a lock-nut on it... which attaching the mic clip or shock mount should act as. Another possible option is using a drop of thread locking compound, however the stud would not be so easy to remove later on if needed.

I found it does't really "sit" in, it just stays on top. I assume this is made so you can rotate it...but not really sure.
