Rode Blimp Extension with Rode Blimp2 (rycote lyres) can this work?

I have read that the extension is not compatible with their new blimp with the rycotes?
Why - are there different dimensions for screwing it on? Or is it about the lyres in the newer blimp?
Any help is appreciated. I am trying to use it with a NTG-8 mic that is about 22 inches long. THANKS.
 
I suppose I will reply to my own post since I received an email from Rode. The blimp2 and the extension will connect to each other. The issue is that the rycote lyres in the blimp2 are likely not strong enough for the Rode NTG-8 or perhaps other long mics that would make use of the extension. However, I am stubborn and I have ordered other lyres that are stronger and I am going to see if there is some sort of DIY remedy here.
 
Most Rycote Invison mounts can be reconfigured for different mics by moving the lyres braces via Allen screws. Don't know about the Rode.
