I love RR's ability to be a self starter but outside of that I think he's an average director.

Genius Maybe, Hack Maybe, Control Freak for sure.
There is no doubt he is a talented guy, I had gone on a trip to Austin for business, and tried to dig him up...but he is hidden well.
Have read Rebel...oh about 50 times.
SinCity Great look...not so great story.
Spykids love'em because my kids love'em.

not a genius, but definitely not a hack. without question though, very inspirational. i gotta say, if it wasn't for RR, i don't think i would be pursuing filmmaking. i don't expect to drop a few grand on a feature and suddenly be a hollywood player, but i think his drive made me realize that you have to go for what you love in this life. that's what's awesome about him. he knew what he wanted to do, and he went for it. even when others tried to steer him away from it.

In the way he attempts to innovate, he is genius. As a director, he's fine. I think he'll be remembered more for his pushing of digital tech than for his films. Which isn't to belittle him, as I actually think that's pretty impressive.
