Rob Zombie hates remakes?

But he's remaking the blob.

Apparently Rob undertands Hollywood better then most of us.

'Unfortunately, I don't run Hollywood, so I kind of have to look at what's there and go, 'Well, OK, this is how they want to do things and I want to make movies.'

"I think 'House of 1,000 Corpses,' in about 10 more years, will probably be one of the movies that people want to remake,"

So, he's got a good sense of humour about the whole situation, and he's making a living doing what he loves. I don't particularly like the guys movies, but I respect him as a talented individual and an artist in his own right. At least he's honest about the state of the industry.

How do you feel about his comments?

THere is a trend in Hollywood to develop "Re-Boots". Not really a remake, but not really a sequel. Sort of a re-imagining of a property (especially franchise properties). That's what Rob did with Halloween. I know that Dimension (I think) is currently doing the same with some other 80's horror properties.

I like Rob. I like his music and although I'm not a horror guy, I appreciate his style. And yeah, a lot of his observations are spot on.

I think Rob's a good director, but I wish he'd stop writing. Every movie of his is the trashy trailer park hour.

According to the trades this is exactly what is going to be made in the next 3-4 years. Reboots/Remakes. Johnny 5 gets another go, some other Childrens toys, more marvel and dc comic books, Jeffersons etc...

Ugh. Shoot me now. :kali:

I do like that he can admit that he doesn't like all the remakes, but he wants to make movies and well, what are you gonna do? I suppose get independent financing, but then not everyone can do that, especially in the down economy. Or at least not enough to make the films they might want to make.

I wonder now that the studios are going to be even more remake crazy, will more actors, writers, producers, and directors admit these same conflicted feelings about the remake overload? I think that if Hollywood has any chance of actually getting back to making a healthy dose of original content again, that the first step is for influential people in the industry to start admitting their own conflicting feelings like Zombie has done in that interview. This would basically amount to some sort of a creative coming out of the closet.

I mean, come on, there has to be a decent number of people currently working in Hollywood that are sick and tired of all the remakes.

Hollywood has always been in the re-make business. Rob said it, and a lot of people know it, Hollywood is a scarred business.

We see it with how they're treating piracy, and we see it with how they're treating their content. The businessmen want a sure bet, and they want to feel safe.

Looking at it form a businessman's point of view, filmmaking is a sucky business. You spend thousands (for indy) and millions (for hollywood) on one product that can either sell or bomb horribly. Not to mention that you have to compete with so much content out there (and spend far more just to advertise). It's just terrible to invest in the film business. So they need a sure bet. What sells better, original content, or something with an already established fan base? If they even decide to go ahead with original content and it actually makes it through all the steps to get it made, it's always packed with flashy scenes, and well known actors.

Now what I fear is going to happen is that the general audience (not filmmakers like us who scream for original content) will get so used to the re-makes that they'll only really be willing to go see a film if it's a re-make or adaptation of something they enjoy. Then I fear a vicious cycle will commence. But perhaps I'll be wrong, I hope...

The thing I hate the most is when I love the idea of a film, I think it's completely original, I go and see it, get blown away (or at least enjoy it), then read in the credits 'based off of...' Then something in me dies... I get discouraged...

Rob '..TF..' who? Never seen any of his movies nor heard any of his music. Heard of his name though. Mmmm, ...

But good luck wit tat. Can yu toe me sumtin good or, wait, let me check on tube?

Looks interesting but I dont know if it can compete with the nice rubber masks of the original :)

Haha. You're right about that. I just watched the whole original series this past weekend on scyfy. I don't need to see it again in a modern setting.
