Rise of the Planet of the Apes

I didn't know this was in the works until I saw the trailer last night when I went to see X-Men First Class.

At first I thought it was some sort of remake of Project-X (with Matthew Broderick). Then I started thinking it had some "Planet of the Apes" influences, but I didn't actually expect it to be related.

Anyway, the trailer really grabbed my attention (which is uncommon for me) and I'm very much looking forward to seeing it. I have to admit that no matter how cheesy the original Planet of the Apes was, it's one of those movies I have fond memories of watching as a kid, and still watch every now and then.

So this one is about how them monkeys get smart. They tried to cover that period in the original movies, but it wasn't very interesting.

I'm definitely seeing this one in August.

Seems like an odd thing to stick out there by itself. Doesn't seem like a story which can stand on its own, yet it doesn't seem to tie into the continuity of either the original films or the Burton disaster.

I'm sure I'll Netflix it, though.

So super intelligent apes would pursue war and destruction, thats just amazing way of thinking, congrats to writers.
It looked funny especially when i saw all the police force and swat, its so cheesy, all these forces against some unarmed apes haha.

They should have called it Ape-ocalypse; less of a mouthful at least.

It seems WETA dragged out their old King-Kong models for this, and Andy Serkis will be reprising his role too; that must have made it easy.

Looks similar to "Conquest for the planet of the apes" which was an equally bad idea.

It's pretty much a remake of it, but at least Conquest of was a prequel in an established series.

Wikipedia says:

The film is not based on any specific plotline from the original series, but instead takes elements from the earlier movies to create an original origin story.
In a segment of a video blog post, director Rupert Wyatt commented on the originality of the plot: "This is part of the mythology and it should be seen as that. It's not a continuation of the other films; it's an original story. It does satisfy the people who enjoy those films. The point of this film is to achieve that and to bring that fan base into this film exactly like Batman [Begins]."http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rise_of_the_Planet_of_the_Apes#cite_note-Visit-3

I'm not sure it works the same way, story-wise. But I guess we'll see what they come up with.

The novel is very different from any movie version, and it's a quick read. Chilling in parts. (And not about what most people think it's about.) Though if you read it, Burton's ending makes a little more sense. But only a (very) little.

Elements of the novel are used in the first four movies, including some of the elements that this new one appears to be based on.

I'm looking forward to it. I'm definitely a fan of the original movies and the concept over all. It looks cheesy, but not every film has to be a dramatic Oscar attempt- some of them can just be fun to watch. Apes taking over the planet is already an insane idea, why take it too seriously?

Is it Pripyat in this vid ? Weird. It would work better with unknown location, sometimes if you know too much it can ruin your experience and message of this vid came out fake to me just because i know where location is.

Just like there is no Indiana Jones 4, there is no Burton version of Planet of the Apes.

looks very cheesy imo.

"We've discovered THE CURE"

OMG OMG OMG they found THE CURE?!?!?!? lolllllll

I'm not sure which one bothers me most: "the cure" line, or the "Rise of..." in the title.

From a quick imdb search:

- The Dark Knight Rises
- Rise of the Planet of the Apes
- G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (with sinking ice)
- T3: rise of the machines
- Underworld: Rise of the Lycans

and so on...

There are only 36 dramatic situations. I'm fine with that. But I'm pretty sure there is more than 1 way to refer to something's origin in a film title. Titles don't usually bother me much...I'm not sure why this one bugs me.

I had to rewind the clip a few times to hear what he said when he "the cure" - he seems to mumble quite a bit.

The title is too much of a mouthful. Its even more-so annoying because it has the words 'of the' repeated twice in the title. Its like Austin powers talking himself into a corner ("Allow myself to introduce....myself...").

Rise OF THE planet OF THE apes. Lame title.

I'm going to give this one a chance. The trailer looked pretty cool to me.
I had zero interest in the last POTA remake. This looks like a reboot of sorts. I'm curious to see what they've come up with.

What was Transformers 2? Rise of the Fallen?

All the talk about this reminded me of a short on Vimeo

Wow. Space Chimp was better than the Tim Burton POTA remake, and from what I've seen of the new Apes film's trailer, probably better than it as well.

What was Transformers 2? Rise of the Fallen?

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. It still sucked pretty hard though, so it could have been called just about anything.

I think I am going to write a post apocalyptic satire called After the End of the World: Rise of those who Fell into Anarchy after the Fall of Civilization. It will have cannibals, zombies, mutants, killer robots, aliens, sea monsters, giant man-eating rodents, and furiously feral grannies.
