RIP Richard Widmark

Sad Max

Artful Dodger
A versatile and prolific actor, died today at 93.

Widmark played in over 70 films including Judgment at Nuremberg, Twilight's Last Gleaming, Murder on the Orient Express, Death of a Gunfighter, The Way West, Panic in the Streets, Kiss of Death, and one of the finest Cold War films ever made, The Bedford Incident.

They don't make 'em like that, no more.

I was working at Downey Studios (once Boeing) yesterday, and drove past what must be one of the oldest McDonald's in Socal, on the way in...

Yeah. Big single golden arch out front, and this very fifties-looking cartoon character below...no Ronald in sight...

The best movie he was in was Night and The City (not the DeNiro remake). Best film about a small time hustler I've seen and my favorite film noir. The film has a very modern sense of camera movement and the subject matter much darker than usual for the time it was made. And the ending is absolutely brutal and uncompromising (although I hear there's a British version with a happier ending). Great flick, and a great performance from Widmark. Hope I live as long a life as him.
