RIP Harvey Pekar

I'm not a comic-book guy; I discovered Pekar and his work as a result of the film, and later came to rate him as a first-class writer, regardless of medium.

He was like Carver meets Bukowski meets Beckett... overheard on public transport...

I predict a surge of critical studies and biographical work to appear over the next couple of years.

I believe that DeeVeeExYoozer Ted Spencer worked on the film.

RIP

Robert Crumb: You turned yourself into a comic hero?
Harvey Pekar: Sorta, yeah. But no idealized sh*t. No phony bullsh*t. The real thing, y'know? Ordinary life is pretty complex stuff.
