RIP Final Cut Pro 7

I still use it daily. Yeah, I've used FCP X, multiple times and have become very familiar with it. I still find it an awkward NLE to use, although I do miss some of its features when I go back to FCP 7. Hopefully someone patches FCP 7 for use in High Sierra. Might be time to move on to Premiere or Resolve.

I would suggest trying Lightworks and working with it enough to overcome the change in terms. I also suggest a programmable keyboard and jog/shuttle like one of the Xkeys devices. I don't know if Resolve has all the hings you need yet, haven't looked at v14 so the missing stuff might be there.

And of course there is always Media Composer and maybe even MC First but I wish First could share projects back and forth with a full MC, that way you could get the basic stuff done in First and buy a month of MC to finish the project. Pretty sure that Lightworks is still "fully functional" in the free version except for export options, which you could then buy for a month to finish.

I still use FCP7 too. Premiere firstly is only on the CC now, right? No "boxed" version? So that's a no. Also, not a fan based on my experience with CS6. Curious about resolve and of course FCP X.

I was a FCP7 devotee and made the jump to Premiere Pro a few years ago. IMO the easiest transition from FCP because Adobe gradually redesigned it to accommodate fcp7 users. I've never been a fan of Avid because I've always been a drag and drop editor. I have to admit I still have slight annoyance towards Apple for killing FCP7. It seems to me they have been trying to win back users by making X closer to what FCP8 would have been, but IMO it's too late...

Premiere is about as close as you can get to FCP7 for an editing experience these days. I don't mind it, and it's been very stable for me editing-wise. But I've just started having massive export issues with it.

FCPX is my go-to these days thanks to the sheer speed of it's editing. It's still pretty rubbish for cutting any kind of montage on, but for linear edits where you know where you're going and what you want to do - it's blindingly fast, so much faster than anything else out there.

Downloaded the latest beta for Davinci Resolve and I'm thoroughly impressed. Editing felt quick and snappy. Most of the keyboard shortcuts from FCP 7 are the same and it has much of the same functionality, plus the best color correction tools around. Might give it a whirl on a small project or two.

I am annoyed that Apple has done this. I can understand not upgrading it due to X which I have bought and dabble with. FCP7 just wroks fine for so much of what I do and blocking it from working on an operating system is dumb. And we all know that is what they are doing, blocking it. I have several edit suites currently and they all have FCP7 and X on them as well as 7 to X . My old MacPro 3.1 with FCP7 and BlackMagic Decklink Studio card and breakout along with the Rocket Raid setup work like a charm daily. There is still a ton of "legacy" work out there and it is a shame that I can't have the latest OS on my MacBooks/ iMacs along with FCP7. Just dumb.
Yes I have also tried Resolve, its nice and powerful but requires much more computer and thus not applicable to some of my hardware. I don't like Premiere, don't like subscription software. Happy for you if you do.
I suggest those that want FCP 7 to run on the latest OS ***** to Apple. I know if I had to change completely it would not be Apple that I would move to, I would go with a Win system and Resolve for a lot less money.

Possible they are blocking it...but High Sierra seems to be cutting off any 32-bit software so it might be some deeper level change to the OS, which would make it impossible for FCP7 to run, even with a patch.
