Rip DVD to MOV

I worked on a film, and the director has asked me to cut a trailer for it. He gave me DVD (with menu, not straight video), I watched it, wrote down shots and dialogue that are usuable, etc, now it's time to cut it.

How do I rip the movie to a usable video file that I can cut in FCP?

You will also need the MPEG2 Codec from Apple. I think its $25. You can also rip the DVD with MacTheRipper then use MPEG Streamclip to transcode the footage into something usable.

Or if you wanted a higher quality trailer without 4 generations of additional loss/compression, ask for a copy of the original Quicktime you can cut from. Or is the film not worth it?
