dammit. It's truly shocking - he was the picture of health. Sending healing energy to his family

Apparently, he was fighting colon cancer for four years, including when he was shooting Black Panther. How one pulls that off, I can't even imagine.

Way too young. It's a reminder for everyone to get checked. Colon cancer has a 90% survival rate if caught early. Get the test tomorrow and every year thereafter.

Literally just saw that on the local news less than 30 mins ago.

And completely unrelated and a hard left turn, but why does the forum censor pretty much any other "bad word", but not GD?

Yeah, this is heartbreaking and it's an incredible loss.

He was in late thirties when he was diagnosed with which long before any of the current guidelines recommend screening. Unfortunately his is not an isolated case and colon cancer is definitely on the rise in younger adults. The American Cancer Society recently lowered their recommended age for screening to 45 but that obviously wouldn't have helped since he probably had precancerous polyps in his early to mid thirties.

Having said that please remind your loved ones to get screened. I have a relative who waited until they were in their early fifties to get screened even though they were told they were at higher risk. They found a cancerous polyp but fortunately it was very very early when there were only a few cells but it was still traumatic.

It's also worth discussing genetic testing with your provider since there a number of inherited conditions that dramatically increase the odds of getting colon cancer.

Just watching it on the news and I’m sad to say I’ve never actually heard of him or seen his movies. The trouble today is that everything is so targeted. I’d like to have seen his work but no matter. It’s more worrying that the world has gone mad on a virus that by and large makes you feel bad for a few days when cancer gets far less exposure but has shocking death rates but also better and better treatment and recovery. If this poor guys story helps progression on cancer meds and treatment that’s good. I see an ad for superhero movies and go no further. It appears his was more worth watching than the others. Still sad though.

If you don't like superhero movies, at least check out 42. Excellent, inspiring film and he's great in it.

Black Panther is a pretty good movie. I actually wish they would have made it longer and delved in a little deeper. Unlike so many of the other Marvel movies(they do skim, too). Like the last Captain America. God, I couldn't wait for it to end.

Got checked last year, made stupid jokes the whole time I was lupey. Way to young.

A friend of mine had "Exit Only" written across her ass when she went for her exam.

Truly sad to learn of Boseman's passing, but man what a legacy he leaves behind. One for the ages.

His best work by far are the bio pics:

"42" the story of Jackie Robinson

"Marshall" about the supreme court justice Thurgood Marshall

" Get On Up" the story of James Brown.

Spike Lee's last movie "Da Five Bloods" is fine too. If you want some deeper insight into what must be like to live as a black man in our culture, you can find those on a streaming service. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1569276/

I much prefer good character dramas to the Marvel Comics films. Met a comic illustrator for Marvel who quit after 15 years because he "got tired of drawing men in panties punching each other".

I was watching the local evening news and the anchor announced that SC’s governor had ordered flags to fly at half staff for Chadwick Boseman, which at first I thought was a little strange. He then went on to say something that I didn’t know. Boseman was born and grew up in Anderson, SC, which is only a little over 100 miles from here.

30 miles from where I live.
