Rip a DVD and get the same quality

I used to have Mac the Ripper but you can only watch, not take it and put it into an editing program. Now I have HandBreak. It's good but does not rip out to the same quality. It rips it out to H.264 mp4. So does anyone know a better DVD ripper for mac that rips to the same quality and can rip into .mov ?

You can't transcode a file and not expect some data loss.
IMHO the easiest way to pull the footage off a DVD is play it out and capture the video/audio (uncompressed) rather than ripping. Different strokes I suppose.

With regards to other ripping apps you could give Mpeg Streamclip a try.

Even if you capture the DVD by digitizing it, you are actually losing quality because you are going from the orginial encoded VOB >> decompression D/A >> digital capture card A/D >> another compression format

The best bet is is to RIP the orginial VOBs then strip them, into seperate video and audio streams.

Then you will end up with one MPEG2 program stream and one AC3 or MPEG2 program stream.

You should be able to edit that in any NLE and then spit out an MPEG2, if its just straight cuts, then you can use some MPEG editing programs like Womble and edit without re-rendering i.e. zero image generation loss

Thanks guys, but I figured it out in HandBreak. I had realized the quality was at 50% the entire time when all I had to do was move it too 100%
