Ring Light

Any of you California folks seen or worked with one of these?

I am looking for a ring light and will probably end up buying a Kamino but in my reasearch I came across this. The builder says the inside diamater is 15 inches and the bulb/tube is 65 watts. No other specs available.
Maybe one day COOL LIGHTS will build a Kamino style kit. HINT HINT>>
Cheers

Thanks Brian. Round is certainly a challenge. The toughest fixture we could put together from a metalwork standpoint. But, we rarely get "easy" to work with, so it is something we will do one day for sure. Its just a question of when I can get the time. I'd probably do something about the size of the one in the link but a bit thicker and with banks of LEDs that you could turn on and off so the thickness of the light emanating area can be adjusted to whatever you want. Then a dimmer on top of that to adjust the level of whatever number of rows you do have turned on.

We'd probably do a 3200K version as well too which seems rare in LED ring lights.

Brian... that isn't your ad by chance?

:)

Kamino... you mean Kamio?

That guy's ebay ad is full of misspellings... and I especially like how he specifies that this light is perfect for skin flicks :)

Too funny... my only concern with this light is the uncertainty of the light quality... other then that... it's cheap enough. I wouldn't hesitate to try it out at that price. Through the years I've bought tons of assorted lighting like this all in the name of science.

If you get one let us know how you like it.

Sorry for the spelling error! Yes I meant a Kamio. If I can't find a used one I will spring for a Kino Flo new one from BH or ..
By the time I get it shipped and clear it through customs and so on... I do really like Richard's ideas for an LED based ring and the low power demands would be even better for my work.
In any case thanks Matt and Richard for posting.
Best

What kind of price point ?

Its way too early to nail that down now. All depends upon the number of LEDs you can put in there. Also depends upon how expensive the fixture would be and we'd need to determine how to mount it to the camera as well.

I'm assuming some kind of 19mm or 15mm rod type mounting with a 1/4-20 fitting on it would work best. The other issue is all the different matte boxes out there and their sizes. I'd hate to miss one or two matte boxes by making the light just a bit too small for them. On the other hand, we don't want it too large or its not so portable anymore. Lots of things to think about.

I would be very interested in a light like this. Thanks.
