Hey guys, I was watching the behind the scenes for the "Money To Blow Music Video"

When I noticed the ring light they used for Lil Wayne's scene around 4:03. I had never seen a design like this before, imo it looks like it provides alot more light when you have bigger areas to cover more area. Does anyone know any manufacturers who sell an item like this. Thanks in advance

professional ringlight are insanely expensive, so you better will build your own. (i think the one you mention is DIY)

there are several paths, depends your purpose.
if you got the main power, you can either simply purchase a ring bulb (usually fluorescent tube but also exist as regular tungsten bulb), or build some kind of
"flower" with cheap tubes or bulbs. you can easily put a dozen of bulbs to get the equivalent of thousand of watts.
if you had to go portable or in the field, leds are ok.

Hey lhmaloney this is really easy to make. Here's what you'll need (also depending on what camera you're using). My design was based off of a rail system, but I'm sure there are other ways to mount it if you don't own one.

- ring light with ballast (the fixture that has a light bulb screw base)
- White 1/2" polymer board (some use a cutting board from Walmart $10 or so)
- pack of zip ties
- light bulb socket
- light bulb wire

Drilled out two holes (60mm centers) for the rails to fit thru, cut out a square hole for the camera, and a circle of the light socket.

I think I spent $35 or so and about 1hr putting it together.

Here's an video with a few shots of the ring light in action.

*** Be very careful when playing with any of these light fixtures, the bulbs do break pretty easy and if you don't know what you're doing when it comes to wiring, I'd probably ask a professional to help. I'm only giving you advice on how the assembly of a ring light works, and not responsible for anything harm you bring on yourself or others. ***

Finally got the clip to play and see what you're talking about. This light fixture has several fluorescent tubes wired in a custom circle, this is alot more complicated than the simple ring light design and will probably need some sort of electrician to help with this design.

Thats an on set grip / gaffer special. Just a bunch of 2 or 4 foot Kino tubes attached to a skinless frame.

Clever idea, works especially well with the reflection on Wayne's sunglasses. I guess that was the desired effect though!
