Ring 2

Does anyone think that we’ve become totally desensitized to horror films now? Years and years of horror films have just set higher and higher bars to where now it’s like “man, this had better just rock”.

I remember watching “The Exorcist” and “Hellraiser” back in the day and being completely freaked for a few hours after. Now I watch rip offs of those films and/or those films again and I’m like “wow, that was kinda goofy”.

Dvpixl, I agree with the ‘rotten girl in the closet’ scene, that was pretty disturbing. I think that was the last time I was actually shocked. I was really, really looking forward to Ring Two.

And then again maybe it’s age or being totally jaded but it’s hard to get freaked out by new horror movies. I love zombie movies because they’re just fun to me but the fear/psychologically traumatic films of late are just weak.

I’m still going to see Ring Two but I’ve already put to much pressure on it to be really good.

..i saw it and had the same experience with the theatre being completely packed with teens. there was one group in front of me that was being pretty obnoxsious during the fim, and at one point i realized that for the last minuite or so i had just been staring over at them in front of me trying to figure out what i could throw at them. i had nothing.. and it was a good thing. if i had had a drink or pretzel peices and cheese left it would have nailed them in the back of the head in an instant. it was weird.. when i snapped out of it , it was like i just "woke up" from dreaming and remembered i was in a theatre watching a movie...

..anyway, aside from the circus going on in there i managed to be entertained by the film. it wasnt nearly as good as the first one, but i did like how it was a direct continuation of the first one.. and not some sequel spinoff of sorts. part of the reason i didnt enjoy as much im sure was because of the annoying teens, but te other part was due to the writing ofthe film.
####spoilers###
the plot where the girl wanted only to inhabit the child and be loved by the mother took away the immediate sense of danger for the family. she wasnt going to kil the boy, and she wasnt going to hurt "her mommy" either.. only people that got in the way.. incidentally people we dont care about. .... anyway even though it lacked the outright scariness of the first one, it was stil downright creepy, and interesting to watch. it didnt live up to my expectations, but i didnt feel it was a waste either.. it was just ok.

the part with the deer looked pretty fake sometimes, but i did really enjoy that part. it was unexpected, and pretty tense for me anyway. it added an extra twist to think about when she found all the deer antlers in the basement. and knowing that the girl was inhabiting the boy then made it so they were attacking her.. not the family. anyway i liked that the film leaves alot of stuff for the viewer to figure out, and not just spelling everything out for you. .. next time i see a film like that ill probably rent it so that i can see it in a less anyong atmosphere though.

well there's more coming. more adaptations/remakes from japan, korea, you name it.
One I'm looking forward to is called "A Tale of Two Sisters" a korean made film- which was really good. Sorta felt like a hybrid of jap horror/any other thriller. It's being remade- I just hope it's not being remade with the Olsen Twins as rumors have it. that would be more funny then scary.
But they are all coming here. too bad some has to be remade- for the american audience but you know what, I'm kinda fascinated by remakes. Its interesting to see how it turns out.

Just another trend that will pass after exploiting the genre for every dime it's worth. Seems to be the trend of American filmmaking (Not indie films....Hollywood silly!!). I think we are *Almost* out of the Superhero stage. Spiderman, Batman, Fantastic Four, Incredible Hulk, Electra, Spawn, Daredevil...and the list goes on. The Jap Horror phase is definately upon us though. Now we have to sit through remakes of The Eye and various others. I wish I could tell what the future trends would be so we could make a *trendy movie* and get rich like everyone else in *LA*. As far as horror goes....I prefer effects-less hitchcockian suspense. ~reservoir~

It is for this reason I do not go to the movies anymore. I'll support the DVD scene. If it is absolutely necessary to see it in the theater I'll try to catch a late-late screening or an odd time screening like at 1:30pm on a Tuesday. That's the best bet to be free to enjoy it!!

There is nothing worse than going to a theatre and having some people/persons ruin it for you. What are you going to do? Ask the 16 year old Usher to help you out? Body Slam a high school kid and be prosecuted for Assault?

I only go to Matinees now; the earlier the better and on a weekday only. I find it to be a mellow crowd that is there to see the movie.

I think people always want to have a nice scary couple of hours, but we are sucking the genre so much it will need soon a rest like in early and middle ninetees with just a buch of them coming out.

Then they will became scary again.

It doesn't seem like the genre needs a rest, just some new stories. As long as there's scary movies coming out I'll go and see them because I love to be scared. As for the Ring 2...man did that blow. First off the effects in it were really weak and the editing sucked. I think for a good scare to work well it must be performed in the editing. Like in the first Ring when Katie dies...that set the tone of the film right there and scared the crap out of me. The first film worked because it only gave you a couple seconds, if that, to see the scary or disturbing parts. But that's more than enough time for it to be burned into your mind for a week or so. Also the other reason why I didn't like the Ring 2 was because of the weak story. They could have done so much more with it but they didn't.

As for the theater being full loud irritating people...I didn't have that. But I always try and go when its going to be dead at the theater so I don't have to kill anyone.

The only movies or shows that always freaked me out was the "Tales from the Dark side" series. Oh man, everytime I would hear that melody I would freak out and yell. The Excorcist scared the crap out of me as well. Plus I saw Excorist when I was young. To this day that face from lida blair still brings chills to my spine. The Amittyvile house was also affected me as well. Thats pretty much it, other than that nothing really scares me besides crack heads trying to sell me pokemon trading cards.

Crackheads can indeed be scary. Reading that made me think of a riduculous looking movie I saw at Blockbuster the other day. It's some indie straight-to-video movie called "Cracka-Jacked". Anyone seen this crazy looking thing? I would presume it's about a white guy who goes to wrong side of town and gets *jacked*. I haven't rented it yet...maybe I should!! ~reservoir~

this movie was terrible! what a disappointment. i really liked the first (us) one.

The Ring used shots and scenes of obscure imagery which made sense to the story and the eerie contents of the tape. Here there was no point to it:

The deer attacking the car, cool scene despite some near cheesy CGI, but what’s the point? And how did those kids at the beginning come about getting their hands on a copy of the infamous tape anyhow? THAT story seemed more interesting to me. Conversations while you sleep? Samara’s mom with scissors in a mental hospital? Come on! The Ring Two shouldn’t have been made.

There was some cool effects (except the deer which just absolutley sucked ass)

Just got the unrated DVD today, had not seen this one previously. The deer scene was funny. Deer attacks car breaks driver door glass. Second deer attacks car breaks passenger door glass. Second deer does hokey rear and re-attack. Car drives off bad deer follow and falldown. (must have called AAA because...) Drivers door now has new perfect glass. But wait... Driver glass is junked again as the herd of deer forms around car.

BTW.... The search function needs to be cut down to 4 characters. The only reason this is not a new second thread is because I took the time to go back to march of 05 and manually search for ring 2. Please Jarod let the search option do 4 characters...
