RigWheels super small dolly wheels....

Yah, for the 4 sets. I'd love to have these to throw into my bag on a trip. Anywhere you could put together some sort of dolly move. The slider is great but customs doesn't like it!

I just bought 4 of these... I'll let you know how it goes. I have 2 manfrotto 7' poles left over from light stands. I know metal against metal isn't optimal, but for shots with no live sound I guess the smoothness of these are more than adequate :) I just pray that customs wont smack a gazillion euros on top of the price :(

Add to that... I initially thought two of these from Ikea http://www.ikea.com/dk/da/catalog/products/50022764 ($10!!) would have been awsome as rails, but alas... they are too narrow (15 mm) and I read that rigwheels need atleast 28mm.

So having seen the Ikea Grundtal thingy, does anyone know of something similar that could serve as rails?

Edit: decided that the 40mm, 7' poles were too soft in the metal. So I canibalized a Manfrotto 231 instead. I reckon the chrome 4' light stands are a bit tougher so they can handle a bit more weight and they have predrilled holes in each end, so it's going to be a breeze putting feet beneath them.

Rigwheels have arrived... Took approx. a week from the states till it arrived in Denmark.

There's nothing fancy about the packaging. The wheels come in heatsealed bubble wrap, and then put directly into the USPS box. I guess the wheels are pretty much self explanatory.

What has me worried is that out of the box, the wheels aren't at all as slick as they look in the video where Lance demonstrates them.
Maybe it's because weight has to be applied for them to really work, but I can't get a single revolution from any of the wheels by flicking them with my finger.

Be aware that no screws or anything is included with the wheels... it's just wheels :)

I'll post some more once I get home and put them on my baseplate for the dolly system.

(in the meantime... anyone else tried them yet?)

Just spoke to Lance from Rigwheels over email... I think he keeps taps on customer feedback on the forums. Now that's service for ya!

Anyways, the only real issue I had... well, not even an issue for me, but might be for someone else, was that the wheels, when run on tubes or rails that are hollow, like the chrome ones I have, tend to create resonans inside the tube. This of course has nothing to do with the wheels themselves. Any object that you would drag along the tube with surface contact would create this sound.

However, Lance suggested the following and I think it's definately worth trying:

Use large gap filler to fill out the tube. This should atlest get rid of great deal of the resonans and it's easy to apply.
I'll be trying this and get back to you with the results.

My thanks to Lance for caring...

Also, in relations to previously mentioned needs for the project; Rigwheels do ship with nuts and bolts, so you don't have to worry about those 2 dollars ;)

Of course it has to do with the wheels. I use skateboard wheels which are completely silent on rails when doing a move during an interview.
Having to fill in the interior of your rails is not going to change the design of the wheels.
