Ok, let the opinions on this fly... It previewed at NAB, for those who havent heard of it yet, and will retail for $1300 later this year.

I think it looks kind of "toyish" and lacking some of the controls we might want, but if it works like they say it does, surely this is going to put a boot up the ass of all the wireless companies?

:kali: G2/Lectro

Well, first, if this is the same wireless found in John Coffey's video, it is blue tooth, which makes me a bit skeptical on the range. I have not yet seen any blue tooth with a range of more than 30', which would not be enough for wireless boom applications.

But, if it works, I think you should be able to get fairly clear reception. But, you will have to tell everyone on set to turn off the blue tooth option on their phones...so cell phones could still be a major cause of interference on a movie set. ;-)

well, they mention 10 metre minimum reception distance in the link.. did you check that out phil?

I wonder if the cell phones would be able to cause problems or whether they have thought of that already... they say it hops around different frequencies to keep clean signal.

Well, that aside, Ive ordered my Lectro 100's, so this is out of the question for now anyway. Besides, I dont really wanna be the dummy that orders the first batch anyway... you gotta admit though, this whole thing looks freakin awesome.

I did notice their claim of 10 meters...that is what has me skeptical. I would love to know if they demonstrated it at 10 meters at NAB...my guess is they didn't stray too far from their booth. ;-)

I talked with Ric Creaser (the australian guy in the video, and the guy who came up with it) about it at NAB. It's not going to have a a huge range. It's main application is ENG work, where range really isn't an issue, but being compact and being able to set up quickly is. It's not the same exact blue tooth that's in your cell phone, it's a blue tooth derivative. Of course, I really couldn't tell you what that means, so i don't know if it will really interfere with other blue tooth devices or not. It does automatically frequency hop, so you will always be on a clear channel. I think it's pretty cool for what it is, and is a much needed tool.

does it has one fq it is working on or you can run different so you can work with a couple of these ?
what is the power sourse for that thing and how much it hold 416 ( 2 ma mic)with phantom power on ?

All very good questions that I don't have the anwers to. Talk to Steve at Coffey Sound, and he can help you out.

Well Bluetooth (I know it's not quite bluetooth) works as a spread spectrum signal around the 2.4 GHz range and frequency hops while detecting what other bluetooth devices are in the area and then avoiding those frequencies. In fact they can use the same frequency but just time it differently.

So theoretically, you can have a bunch of these all operating around each other with no interference.

Of course, I will be curious to see how it plays out in reality. Be a pretty sweet boom to mixer connection for ENG work if it is reliable.

Very exciting times we are living in now.

oh heck yeah (got my napoleon dynamite shoes on)..

its sounds pretty amazing to me... someone at jwsound.net said that they had talked to Rick the guy who made it about pushing for versions with longer range applications.

I really am very curious about this.. I really think for the majority of app's that arent big exterior dramatic use, these might be just what the doctor ordered. I know that I dont very often go further than 10metres from talent I mic, so this might be wicked for me. And yes, DEFINATELY as a mic to mixer option for ENG.. the end of the cable!

Dave you mentioned a video, I havent seen it yet and didnt notice it when I searched this system up on google - do you have a link for that?

the problem is not 10 meters , its walls , people and other obstacles between your receiver and the tx , multiply reflections ( did you shoot near water and got good range without dropouts? ) crowded rf space and cet .
so sometimes i get 150 yards in the desert with my lecros( i got more with my privius 200/205) and sometimes you get 10 meters with the same 100mw tx .
sp 5-10 mw transmitters are not exactly something you can work on football field or crowded / beton ( concrete?)walls in the middle
might be nice for on street interviu or very close range gigs but i am not sure it would work in real life situations ,sorry i dont buy something that will work in 30/40 % of the shooting. i like to think that the limit of my shooter glass ( lens) is the limit i have to be prepare for, to get the sound .
so it indeed good innovation and might be the components and the analog to digital conversion is good enough and the limiter is also good and not make the tx brick walling ,but the lousy range is make it very limited device .

thats true oleg...i wonder would bluetooth behave in the same way as normal wireless?

i dont think this is the solution yet, but maybe Ricsonix have taken the first step in the right direction.

For $1300, this would be great - if the range was bigger.

Im still really curious about the circuitry though. its seems like there arent enough controls on this stuff!
