Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper) doing an AMA on Reddit

Is it? GEnuine question. Personally wouldn't think it would help much at all, seems like only people interested in that are already gonna go and see it anyway.

With nearly 2 million subscribers to the AMA subreddit alone, they easily reach hundreds of thousands in one fell swoop. Considering Reddit is one of, if not, the most visited website in the world among most film's target demographic, and the AMA subreddit is a "default" sub, I think it's safe to say that a popular AMA can reach millions.

It might not be the "most effective" method of advertising in general, but it's certainly one of the best in modern times.
