RGB Limiting equivalent

Is there any equivalent to RGB Limiting for setting broadcast safe levels in FCP 5? Your help is most appreciated.

You mean besides the RGB limit setting within the Broadcast Safe filter?? Located in Effects>Video Filters>ColorCorrection>"Broadcast Safe" :)

FCP 5's broadcast filter doesn't have an RGB Limiting filter (only saturation and luminance limiting). Is there any way I can get the same results using the other effects (or combinations). For example, if I want to limit RGB 3%, is that like using a Quicktime RGB Balance effect, and bringing back RGB levels by 3 on each colour?

Looks to me like the RGB balance won't clamp the output. It looks to actually mix the channels. Kind of like if your are changing the amount of Red channel information mixing into the image. Or for any of the channels.

I guess you could try just desaturating the image a touch. Or reduce chroma via the Proc Amp filter?

I see what you mean about mixing vs clamping. So to get real "clamping" of RGB levels, only RGB Limiting will do? Was there any way colourists were able to approach RGB Limiting (ie clamping) before FCP 6?

Did you try throwing the Broadcast safe filter on the video? I don't have any clips on the machine with 4.5, so I can't do a quick test.

The only other options I can think of is just conservative color correction using the 3 way color corrector, or lowering the chroma with the Proc Amp filter.

There is the Video Filters> Channel > Arithmetic filter which seems to be able to duplicate the broadcast safe effect. I tried it out on a clip in FCS 6 and setting it to "Darken" seemed to clamp everything down to 100IRE without destroying the image. At least not that I saw. You may have different results but It's worth a shot and the filter is in my 4.5 version.

Thank you for your feedback. I've been using the Broadcast Safe's luminance and Saturation limiters, but the option of just RGB limiting (in custom mode) is a great addition. I can see many instances where clamping RGB alone would make the correction. I'll be interested in trying the Arithmetic filter too.
I wonder if there's any other software (or update without full FCP 6) that's out there for RGB Limiting with FCP 5?
