Revolutionary Road

I don't care how good Roger Deakins is... "Revolutionary Road" just looks like I get to sit through the divorce my parents never had. Jeez. Stop yelling!

I sure hope the film offers more then the preview lets on. Personally people yelling and crying grate on my nerves very quickly. I can't stand it. This film looks like it's not for me. I really hope I'm wrong.

I've seen it, and, unfortunately, you are spot on. Good performances, great cinematography, good direction, and a punishing, bleak, drag of a film. I really wanted to like it, but it left me wishing I hadn't just wasted the last two hours of my life. If you think this won't be your cup of tea, your'e probably right.

This is not a drama. This is a horror movie for married people. And it scared me sh*tless.

I felt like I was transported right into the 50's...

Unfortunately, the story & plot were lost somewhere in the time/space continuum.

I feel it suffered greatly in comparison to Mad Men, which covers the same exact ground with more depth and detail. And there seemed to be pieces missing, which from what I've heard of people who've read the book, there were.

I thought the film was pretty good. I liked the cinematography, design, etc. I agree with the plot things, listening to married couples argue is not my favorite past time, however I still liked the film and there were some moments. I loved Leo's run at the end. That was great.

I should've known better (American Beauty, anyone?), but being a fan of all things Deakins, I went for it. The movie turned out to be the kind of Oscar-bait film that I so despise.

I could not sympathize with or care about these characters, at all. There was nothing interesting about them--they were flat, boring and worst of all cliched.

But the thing that irks me the most, is the constant bludgeoning of the "message" over our heads. There is nothing subtle about this movie, folks. Especially when it comes to the crazy guy, who is less a character and more of a shameless device for Mendes to once again beat you over the head with ideas that the audience would recognize internally in a good movie--not here. "Geez, society labels him crazy, but he's really the only one who can see the truth. Genius! Oooh, a dancing plastic bag--"

Then there's all the multiple endings. Should've ended it with that shot of Leo running (great shot, I agree with Chris), but no, we need to be beaten over the head some more.

Gee, thanks Mr. Mendes & Co. you showed just how terrible conforming and suburbia are. You're a true, filmmaking Maverick!

Sorry about the rant (second time I do it today! See Battlestar thread) but this weekend disappointed me big time, cinematically speaking.
