reviewing raw footage for the 1st time

I've cut a few features and have yet to develop a good system for intial reviewing. I find this to be the most difficult part of the post process. i was just wondering how others felt and deal with it.

Do you watch carefully during capture? Capture all then start reviewing? Notes? No notes?

Just curious.

I usually capture it, occasionally checking in, then review it by scene if possible. If the scene is broken up for whatever reason I group the relevant files together, but I pretty much never watch an entire tape. Just one scene at a time. And I only do it after capture because it allows you to scrub back and forth to really see something closely, and to stop so you can look at it in your own time and not get too burnt out. Otherwise it just turns to noise.

I'll usually capture it, watch it once to get the feel of it then watch it again w/more scrutiny and note taking.
