The writer references this a few times. A lot of the "evidence" appears in scenes that weren't in the original book, strengthening the writer's argument.

Not saying I'm a believer or anything. It's just interesting. And Kubrick always had something up his sleeve.

Check out some of the analyses of Kubrick films on that guy's site if you don't think Kubrick would pay such close attention to detail.
