Retailers Are Clearing Out The Canon 7D. Is The Canon 7D II Imminent?

Although even with the $500-600 discounts, the camera is still overpriced at about $999. I love the 7D but it's a pretty old camera.

There is some speculation that they are currently testing it out at the World Cup. Every game has a photographer with a camera that's completely covered in a white wrap...and some believe it's the 7DII. If so, they would probably release it later this year IMO.

I saw the 7D for sale a while back at $825. So that is my benchmark price for a decent deal

Canon Rumors originally said to expect an announcement on August 18, for Photokina.

Apparently the non disclosure agreements expire in mid September. Another source said shipping in October.

The 7DII is supposedly based on an all new sensor. We all know that Canon needs to step up on base DR. Apparently the new sensor is something that will obsolete their other existing products? So a refresh of the 5DIII is supposedly up for February, with the 1DX soon after.

We can only hope! I am doing more stills now. I just bought a Nikon D7100 to play with while we wait to see what Canon delivers. Holding on to all of my Canon glass, I would much prefer to stay with Canon.

Time will tell!

Best, Michael

I have doubts the 7D2 will be good at anything involving video, for its price. It'll have dual pixel for video, but that's it. For $2/2.5k you'll get an excellent stills camera, and that's what it's meant to be, but it won't be relevant like the A7s or as cheap as the 70D, in comparison. All that being said, I'd love to have one for stills to pair up with my Sigma 18-35 1.8. I'm actually currently considering buying a used 7D, as opposed to a T3i, too. I like the 7D body much more, even if it's video performance isn't much better.

It still does almost 10fps raw stills with the firmware update. There's plenty of life in it for a stills camera, but yeah...the new one will be interesting to see.
All the rumors point to Photokina in early September for announcement and then probably hitting shelves later that fall with a higher price of most likely $2500.

I paid $1.5k for my 7D when it first came out (& the 5DII was still selling for $2.5k at that time). If the 7DII is listed at $2.5k it better be an amazing, mind blowing camera. Mostly I'm thinking things that are already on the market like: 4K, HDMI, 1080p60, the elusive Canon DSLR headphone jack, etc. etc. etc.

Though based on Canon's track record I'm not holding my breath.

Yes, a lot of people have Canon glass which does a lot for brand loyalty, but I feel that Sony & Panasonic have upped the game with the $2.5k A7s & the $1.7k GH4. So for a $2.5k price tag, the 7DII really needs to bring it.

Rumored price. I also heard $2000 and even "roughly the same as 7D" so who knows.
I'm getting the feeling that the 7DII will be an amazing, awesome, must have...stills camera. Video? Probably better than what they've got now, but how much better?

I dont expect anything awesome video wise from any new Canon DSLR. Now maybe a new mirrorless camera would shake things up.

I feel that I should add that there is nothing wrong with this, just not for us. I hope I'm right that it is a super amazing awesome must have stills camera and wrong that there won't be too much new in the video side.
