Resume's - hate writing them.

I had to update my resume, and there is absolutely no way I can get it under 2 pages.

Been given a lead on a entry level job at a decent production company, and my inside source said, "Include everything, even your firefighter/medical stuff"

I am frustrated!!!!!!!! I tried sorting it by experience, rather than a time line, it only made it confusing.

Anyone want to help me?

include only the stuff that actually happened and leave out all the stuff that only happened in your mind. or the other way around, whichever sounds better.

You can resize certain elements. Year, position, project title.

You could take as much advantage to both sides of the paper as you can.

If you can post the resume, it may make it easier to figure out what can be modified to fit a single page.

It's also possible you have too much experience for one page to fill. :Drogar-Happy(DBG):

LOL!!!!!!! The weird thing, I had to take actual stuff out, just to keep it at 2 pages. Especially the Lifelong Entry of "Awesomely Awesome Guy" 1970 to Present

I guess I could try to post it up......... feels weird though.

What the heck, hang on...... View attachment DocResume2.pdf

Just had to write one myself, I feel your pain! In the end I tried lying about half of it for the first time in my life. Never had such a smooth interview. It is so much easier to make stuff up than remember what you actually did! Should get an answer this week, I've made it to the last cut.

Your resume rocks. I'd hire you. Hell, I'd hire you just for being called 'Doc'!

Yea, this is actually really good, Doc. My only beef is with the font. I prefer hard-nosed, standard fonts like Verdana, Arial, Tahoma, Georgia, and Cambria, but the content and the rest of the layout is really well organized.

What exactly were you bitching about? :P

So much for detail oriented. I just found a formatting error on my "notables" Bad Doc.

LOL, why didn't you guys catch this??????

Don't stress. With your credentials for an entry level position you should be able to submit it in crayon and still get the job! Each entry of your employment history screams safety-aware. In this modern age of insurance insanity that's money in the bank. In any industry.

Cut it down to size, use a easy to read font (and font size), put the really good juicy stuff down on paper nearly as bullet points leaving them wanting to know more ? once you get an interview then you can elaborate on each point

For brevity you can drop "Duties included..", replace with action words describing what you did. Also list major accomplishments at each gig and quantify it if you can - "developed halon fire suppression deployment methodology that resulted in 30% increase in margin" etc. In the Summary, action words speak louder: Organized, Excellent communicator, Analytical problem solver, etc. Some of those you listed might be considered repetitious so you might be able to shorten the list with a few words that cover multiple things. I would drop the Mac/PC Skills in the bullets since everyone should be assumed to have those if they've done what you've outlined in your history. There should be more room between the last bullet and Professional Experience: - think of this as a business communication and you said in your bullets that it's one of your strong points, so your spelling and layout counts big time. Change "Was responsible for.. " to "Responsible for ..."

That's all I can see that I would change right now. Have fun with it and good luck!

Shyguyfilms, I thought about a CV. But a CV would scream "over-qualified" for this position, LOL, even though my resume may do the same thing.

Don't get me wrong, I am proud to have done what I have done. But for an entry level position at a production company, I want to try to down-play things a bit. But that puts me in a catch-22. If I start deleting things, then I would have gaps. I do, however want the res to look properly formatted, with just the right amount of "white space" to be pleasing to the eye and easy to read.

You can definitely resize a lot of it. Here's an example of what I meant by utilizing BOTH sides of the page. Yes I know it is an Actor resume, but the formatting may keep your credentials to one page. I am examining the way your resume is formatted, and honestly feel it is crowded. You can't fill a closet with living room furniture. If you find a way to format it all so it is laid out in such a way that makes it organized and readable, it will make a whole lot of difference.

At the bottom of the first box (with all your current info), but before the 'summary', there's a line of buttons...select 'share' and you can email the link to anyone.
It works good and is much easier to keep updated!
