The pictures are not great, I know... It was taken with a small camera.
I just wanted to share a more personal experience.
If the mods think it out of subject, you can delete this thread.

We have finish to diner. Time to start the exploration.

We have almost achieved the blue path (parcours nouvelle vague)
This is the sixth place to visit (inside of one of the the biggest hospital in paris)
Thousand of these green things are moving with the wind everywhere around us. Several hundreds meters filled with this strange lifeform. The crowd is mute. Atmospheric feelings.

it's time to come back home.
We finally found a bakery open. The smells are delicious and the bread warm.

06:50
Back to home and time to prepare the breakfast :
black coffee, eggs, cheese (roquefort and gruyere)
yoghurts, chicken, orange juice and red wine to finish the night.
A shower, teeth and bed.

Et voilà !

I read that several others cities are doing now the same kind of event.
Montreal will have his own Restless Night in february 2006. I hope it will be a success.

seems like you had a pretty good time during your "1 Night in Paris" :)

if you don't know what im talking about google "1 Night in Pais"

Hey hvpz, we might get together at some point and maybe discuss projects  ... although I have to admit I went out of my way to drive from friends' place to home without hitting upon any of the huge crowds of the Nuit Blanche... I'm getting too old for this kind of... er... thing !

hvpz and monglane: I've got a 12 hour layover in two weeks in Paris... on a Sat. night from 10PM to 10AM. Rather than hang around Charles de Gaulle is it feasible to head into the city during an all-night layover? I'd rather not hang around the airport if I can get out and see a few things.

Well Owen, a lot depends on how many hours of sleep you plan on catching that night... You could just catch a shuttle train or bus (or cab, but that'll be around 4O euros) into the city, then take a nightly stroll in the historic center : the islands on the Seine river, the Louvre and Tuileries gardens, and so forth... then get back to your hotel !

It also depends on where your interests lie : for example, if you'd rather like to see people, a bit of the night life, etc., rather than places and monuments...

Do you have any pictures that are actually in-focus?

Sorry, John.

Small digital camera. No pod or even tripod.
These pictures are just here to give 'an ambiance'. :)

Btw, we missed the 'Nuit blanche des morts vivants' (White night of the living dead)

It was proposed by a artist and located close to the famous 'Père Lachaise' cemetary.

The concept was to bring back to life famous dead of the cemetary (Jim morrison, ect...) . So the guy took people and dressed them to play those famous dead and filmed them !! I'll try to find some videos.

I read today that around 3.30am, 1.3 millions people were still in the city.

I was difficult to escape from crowd ! :)

No sleep. It's either sit in the airport for 12 hours or go explore. Sounds feasible to venture out into the city. Thanks!

Thanks for the pics. It looks like fun.

But I think Montreal would be crazy to hold such an event in February. I was there one Feb, and it was 20 degrees below zero.
