Restaurant Music

Hey guys,

I just shot a short that takes place in a small restaurant. I want to place some music in the background that won't be distracting, that sounds like it would be playing in a restaurant. Maybe some cheesy, grocery storish jazz track. Anyone know a good source on the web? I googled royalty free, production music, but still can't find what I'm looking for. Thanks.

Ben,

I use Shockwave-sound.com for most of my royalty free stuff. There was another site I used (it's at home) and when you sign up for their newsletter, they give you 10 clips to use for free - I used one of those to play under a coffee shop scene. It worked pretty well. I'll see if I can dig it up (the name of the site, that is).

I have used Band In A Box for some of this kind of stuff. You need a decent synth module to render the music, though QT's built in can be OK if it's really in the background. It's great for soft jazzy kinds of music and can be OK for some other styles as well.

BitB is simpler and much more "automatic" than Sound Track (Garage Band would also work), and is not loop oriented. If your looking for more modern sounding music then I think STP or GB or Acid if your on the PC is a better choice. Another option in modern pop is STORM. It's pretty cool.
