im looking for a supplier for flexible gears to cinevize my own lenses. I have done a good bit of searching and found very little but i have a feeling that my terminology is not industry standard so my searching isnt very useful.
I don't actually use them as they because they never seems to tighten well enough, i use Red Rock Gears for my FF, but they may work for a DIY permanent ring gear project.
Thanks Eiker_ir. I have one of those already and i also bought a couple of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/Flexible-Fo...657?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cba34b701
They work pretty well but they are hard to get on nice and snug which is why i wanted to make them more permanent. I was just hoping for a cheaper option but i guess there inst one out there.
The only thing i could think of was to only glue on a small portion of the lens circle. Just the portion that will interact with the FF gear.
Here's what I do with my focus gears to make them stick on solid:
Get a roll of snot tape (http://www.filmtools.com/34scotatgtap.html) and do tape the focus ring on your lens. This is a very thin, strong double sided tape. Then apply the lens gear of your choice. Then just go rub off any excess with your finger. It's super solid, and yet still removable if you'd like.
What those zip gears or whatever they're called are is basically a flexible gear rack. There are plenty of places that make/sell them, but the trick is finding someplace that has the right size and sells it in the right quantity. I remember looking at one point, but not having much luck. I have a few places that I get stuff like that from but none of them seemed to have them.
