Thanks I enjoyed that article, I guess its hard to shake off the "big is better" syndrome.

Its always the case of looking at the whole system as the sum, not the individual components, you need to follow the entire light path from the photon past the lens straight into the coupled charged photoresistive "pixel" through the DSP and wack onto the magneto tape/ solid state memory or burned onto optic media.
