resolution problems (someone smart needed)

I'm doing sort of a compilation project, editing from lots of avi's (of which i am frameserving vdub to vegas). The problem is, all of these videos have different resolutions.

I don't know anything about pixels/ratios/square pixels etc, but i know the output video is not going to look like/match the input videos when i do final render. I don't expect perfection in render but I'm just trying to find some middle ground.

Can anyone experienced look at the following and try to figure out a project resolution that might be sort of
an average of the bunch and that will have the final output looking as close as to these inputs as possible.

Here are the resolutions

320 x 240
512 x 384
384 x 288
368 x 272
704 x 576
576 x 432
720 x 496
720 x 576

thanks in advance

Hm...

It depends what your final source is. If it is internet, I would downrezz everything to the 320 x 240.

If it is DVD, make everything be 720 x 480.

This is probably not the best idea... so don't assume I'm one of the "smart someones" that you need.

If you want to keep your composition, you will have to have everything letterboxed so it still looks the same, unless you want everything stretched so there are no black bars.

If you want to keep composition and size, and it is for internet, maybe just go with 720 x 576 since it is the largest.

OK this is horrible advice. I'm curious what the next person says to do.

He's right -- decide what your output is going to be and work in that resolution -- though if you're planning something for the web, etc., with a smaller resolution, better work full frame (720 x 480) and then render to the smaller size.

What are you going to deliver this as?

thanks. going to deliver as divx to be shared online. What I'm basically going for is just a resolution that will maintain composition and size with minimal letterboxing (based on the resolutions that i have given)

I'll try the resolutions you guys have suggested and see which looks best for now

Alright.

Just curious, how did you get so many random resolutions? Did you record them yourself or are you just putting together various internet clips?

You don't want to big of a output since the time to download the file would take too long and that most people quit before it completes..Especially people who are still using dialup vs high speed connections.

just a lot of clips i d/led. Kind of making a compilation thing for my friend. The file will be compressed, probably like 400 megs or something, to a divx. not huge or anything
