Hi Guys i just did an interview yesterday...and i tried in vain to dismiss all the background noise including the aircons...even though it was 33c/100f..in a restaurant...hehe
i still managed to pick up some residual background noise like a fridge or something ...whats the best filter to use in FCP,SOundtrack Pro or Logic....to dismiss this??
Any thoughts??
cheers

Constant 'din' type noise is 'usually' easy to attenuate... within reason. (with noise reduction software)

If the 'hum' is from a refrigerator, in your region, a 'high pass' filter with cutoff set at 50 Hz should knock that down. I don't know what FCP/Soundtrack Pro or Logic has, but I just noticed that Adobe's Audition has a 'hum' filter with 'fundamental' and 'harmonics' option.

Basic use of a parametric eq (found in all DAWs) for troublefinding noise: Set a band to 10dB+ and with a really high q-value (making it a sharp spike).q-10-468.jpg
Sweep with it across the frequency spectrum until you find where the noise you want removed stands out the most. Change the boost to cut to diminish the noise, and adjust level and q-value after taste.

This is a simple fix that can handle certain simple noises. Izotope rx and similar programs can get much better results and do many things a simple eq cannot.

33C? the aircon should fit right in .. it would in Sydney mate :)

Don't wreck your restaurant interview voices chasing out all the other sounds, that's not on the menu.

Cheers.
