Requirements and Duration for DVD extra features?

Barry... as I'm working out my BTS stuff and bloopers I realize I could have about 30 minutes of extra stuff on my DVD submission.

I'm guessing that some people could have less and some could have more!

Let's say you got an average of 30 minutes of total DVD information submitted to you for each of 80 entries. That's like 687 million minutes of DVD video!:huh:

You might want to set some criteria for this just so you don't get SLAMMED like you guys did with the 80 entries!:thumbsup:
 
I actually wouldn't count on EVERYONE even submitting their films for the dvd. And not everyone who sends in their movie will have BTS/gag reels or commentary.

I've made a dvd cover, a poster, logged a BTS and am getting ready for that, I've done two commentary tracks (one by myself and one non-technical one with my cinematographer, and probably won't be submitting that second one.), and I plan on making a gag reel as well.
Maybe the BTS can have a 10 min MAX limit. And you can either choose commentary or gag reel? I dunno. Barry may have to consult each one of us individually to see how many people are doing these extra features.
 
Good question ... I'm guessing only about 75% will actually send in thier DVD file, and maybe 1/2 will have BTS. I'm planning on bloopers (5+ minutes or so), and hopefully a commentary track, though it'll only be using the DVX's oncamera mic, so it'll probably sound pretty lame. If I'd had someone else helping me on the crew end of things, I may have been able to plan better for "Anatomy of a scene", "How To's", etc.
 
Well considering it SAID on the entry form that you WON'T get your copy of the festival DVD, a T-Shirt, or any of your prizes unless you DO send a DVD in... I'd expect everybody to send one in!

I know I will anyway 'cause I can't wait to check out ALL my prizes.:cheesy:
 
I got the impression that the T-Shirt was just for entering, period. The Poster I think only comes with the DVD when it's purchased ... I never got the impression we were getting a free festival DVD out of this ... but that was just my interpretation.
 
Our original intent was to put everything on the DVD, but since we're not planning on a 10 disk Blu-Ray set, it might be a good idea to tighten up your BTS stuff. Commentary tracks are great because they don't take up much space- I'd encorage everyone to do a commentary. Thirty minutes is excessive unless you have some incredible story or a really solid how-to. I'm thinking that 5-10 minutes would be good--and it should have *some* redeeming value. Jarred and I will just have to make some judgments on how much to include, so if you have a tight 6 minute BTS or a rambling hour of handycam footage--our decision will be easy. :)

Can we get some firm info on how you want this submitted? There was talk of AC3 files (enabling those of us who mixed in 5.1 surround to keep that) and of course if there's audio commentary that should be set up somehow...

Basically wanting to make sure we all know how exactly you want things submitted. Video in AVI is no problem, it's the Audio & such that I'm still grappling with. (Again, we mixed in Surround so we want to hold that for the DVD if at all possible.)
 
I wouldn't submit the video in AVI, unless you had to. If you send them your MPEG2, you don't have to worry about it getting compressed again, and the AC3 file will be in sync with it as well ... I've tried matching up AC3 with AVI files, and they seem to be SLIGHTLY out of sync.

Trust me: I don't *WANT* to send an AVI, but that's what the original rules required.

I'd much prefer to send a QuickTime MOV pre-encoded MPEG2 with AC3 audio tracks all lined up (5.1 surround, stereo, and mono commentary) but don't know if that'll be OK.
 
Listen, we're working like crazy to get this pup up tonight, and then we can concentrate on the DVD details. Jarred will be posting the details on the deliverables as soon as he gets a chance.
