The one thing I love about this forum over just about any other one is the amount of footage being posted daily. It's great, resourceful, and entertaining even when the content isn't so good.

What I'd really like to see is people putting more detail into the intial post... like CC method, Camera settings, etc... all of the things that you KNOW people are going to ask anyway. This way, we don't have to sit around and wait for people to come back to answer them.

I think, personally, it'd really increase the value of these posts and allow the poster to get feedback much faster.

Just a thought.

sometimes those things are what keep the footage nice, I know I dont give my camera specs, if someone likes the look of my footage (it may sound mean, but I sell my footage alot) I dont want them knowing how I shoot because well, I need the edge. I dont wanna my customers being able to go out and get the same thing for free.

I can understand your thoughts friend, but are your customers really going to be on this forum, or for that matter searching the internet to try and take your job?
What we offer our customers goes way beyond the settings in our cameras - if that's your edge then your in trouble (I doubt that's the case though if you're selling your footage - you got something else going for you :)

That's true, and at the same time look at how many people share their finds with you. I really do understand the need/want to be unique... but that's not really helping the community and that's what this is: a community.

But, I can't make you share your settings. I just think that it'd be great for people to share what they've done and how they done it, not in an extensive fashion because everyone doesn't have that kind of time... but a short run-down of the basics.

Barry wrote a whole book on the DVX, and though he is selling it, a lot of that knowledge just gets posted right back in these forums for others to read for free.

Just as well, there are people like the BROKEN team that share much more detail about their project with the community, and even though they're selling their DVDs, alot of it dribbles back into this forum. It really is about helping each other. As artists, that's pretty much what we should be doing to ignite the "independent" market.

But thank you VERY much for your response, and, not targeting my post count. =P

Its definently not my only edge, but I think posting the exact color settings and everything is just pushing it. Yes BROKEN did share a good amount about their movie, and if anyone has questions for me I give them feedback and answer their questions, but I think filming is it own and experimenting is a must. I give technical information on all the video I post usually any post production info.

Im not telling people not todo it, its just one of the many secrets I dont choose to share because its one of the subtle things I enjoy having. In selling stock footage image is key for me, infact I looked all over other stock footage websites for footage of the northwest just so I can go and get the exact same shot. I will give some technical information sure if anyone wants it. But I dunno about listing off all your information.

Keeping in mind I do support the community.

You're absolutely right, expirementing is a must. And I'm sure everyone would expiremement with your camera settings to get the desired look they want out of it. What I meant by sharing more info was more like a basic rundown of what might've been used.

I wouldn't even say it has to be extensive, jusst the basics. It'd just be more knowledge available to the masses. But, everyone has their reasons and I'm surely not knocking yours!

I would definently post that, I just mean I dont want to go into my settings and list out all of them. Anything other than that I will gladly post.
