replace focus ring with gear

hi, does anyone know if you can take the focus ring off the HVX's lens and replace with a gear? my arri FF won't open up enough to allow a gear to be placed on top of the focus ring so i thought maybe the plastic ring itself could come off and be permanently replaced with the gear....? thoughts? thanks.

I've never heard of anyone doing a permanent modification like that, but there are clamp on gears available, such as these:
