Repairing Kino Flo Diva 400 barndoor

Quick question for you guys since I contacted Kino-Flo a couple times and no one has gotten back to me...

The barn doors on my diva 400's aren't closing properly anymore, they seem to have lost tension in the barn door wiring and I'm wondering if this is an easy enough fix for me to do on my own. I'm not sure if I'm looking at the proper product to make the order either.... this appears to be for electrical wiring?

I've done a really dirty DIY repair on this. We had a shoot with a borrowed kino from a friend that had the same deal. Luckilly we were shooting in the apartment of someone who did lots of stop motion anamation. He had some of that modelling wire (I have no idea what it's really called) and we bundled it together and taped it to the outside of the barn doors.

It didn't work perfectly, but it was 80% there.....

It's called armature wire, available at many art supply stores.

We used it on "127 Hours" to make monitor mounts for our SI2K rigs because Anthony Dod Mantle hates isreali arms - it works very well in this application.

There is copper wire inside the silver conduit that runs along the end of the barndoor. Simply remove the screw on the end and pull out the copper wire.

You can find copper wire like this at most of your major home improvement suppliers--or electrical supply houses,
and it will cost less than a film and video supply. Just make sure it bends fairly

easily but will hold the bend that you make in it. Hope this helps.

Ah, so it is the conduit + copper wire that I need - thanks!

Geez Kino-Flo never even got back to me on this!

You can find the copper wire at Home Depot/Lowes at a much lower price.
You probably do not need to replace the conduit. The copper wire is the part that is
most likely worn out. The conduit does not support-it simply is a housing
for the copper wire.

You were right! Conduit was fine it was just the copper wire that needed to replaced, which was easily found at Home Depot. I had no idea it was such an cheap and easy fix. If Kino-Flo was more on the ball (and they still haven't replied to me) they coulda made a few quick bucks. ;)
