Renting

How do you guys go about renting out your own equipment?
What kind of paper do you make the person fill out?
What kind of insurance do you have that will make them return the camera in one piece?

I want to do this, but am not to sure how to protect myself from getting screwed over.

thanks.

I personally only "rent" to friends. Important things to keep in mind. Do you Love and Baby your gear? If so, renting is probably not a good thing to do. You will almost definitely be upset by how the gear is treated. Even, in the best cases. If you can detach yourself and rent out your equipment to make some money you need to make sure you have an inventory list and have the person renting sign out that they've received every item on the list as well as the condition it is in. You also need to take a deposit for the amount/replacement value of the gear - just in case. Keep in mind, it's REPLACEMENT value - not current value of gear in it's used condition. The only safe way around the deposit is if you rent to somebody with insurance AND they provide you a certificate (COI) naming you as additional insured for the replacement value of your gear. Anything short of these 2 things makes renting a risky business. You are also best off having them sign a contract of sorts that states the price, rental period, and terms before handing over any equipment. I know this sounds like overkill. But, if you want to protect yourself all of this is critical.

That being said, you can certainly rent to friends and others in good faith. But, you're taking a chance. So think hard about what you would do if by some chance your camera was damaged, even by accident.

Hopefully, this is the info you were curious about. Best of Luck!!

I don't rent out my gear because I use it but a regular insurance policy is all ya need. It'll be a bit higher because it's rental gear but your not gonna send stuff out without it.
A regular rental agreement is fine for the customer. You can download em.
