Hi,

i was curious if anyone has tried renting gear online from places such as (lensrentals, lens pro to go, etc...there's a bunch of them).

How was your experience?

Any advice when renting from one of these places?

Anything gotchas to watch out for?

Lensrentals +2

No real "gotchas," but if you plan to do this often then Lensrentals' "HD" membership makes serious sense

I rented a 20mm 1.7 from borrowlenses I think it was , I used it for a wedding, good pricing. Id recommend them or any of the above.

My only advice for online rentals, is to take pictures of the package delivered with a smart phone or the like, and the opening, step by step, and photos of the equipment. While the other posts have mentioned services that seem professional in making sure the equipment is packed correctly, and in good order... the pictures can resolve any issues that could arise.

Another vote for LensRentals. They've even called me to let me know that a camera + shoulder mount combo wasn't going to work so they got me a better should rig at the same price.

I've used them when specific gear wasn't available locally, like the FS700 when it first came out. It was smooth and in some respects easier than dealing with the local rental houses that wanted production insurance (which we didn't have for a no budget music video).
Big box comes via Fedex and when you're done you just slap the included fedex label on it and off it goes.

All mentioned are very good. They destroy local renting prices in my area making it a must for tight budgets but you have to plan it out to make sure the gear gets to you on time and sending it back too. Worth it.
