Does anyone have any experience renting projectors? We're putting on a little show and the theater we have rented has what seems to be an 800x600 sub-1500 lumen projector on a 107ft run. He uses a fixed lens that he says was set up by a pro but the image makes text nearly unreadable and otherwise pristine video comes out totally washed and blurry. We can put a projector anywhere in the theater and the screen is (best guess) 40ft. It's a super old theater (the kind of place your parents may have taken you as a kid) and has a lot of real nice charm.
There isn't a real problem with ambient light and from what I can tell I'll need something between 4000 and 10000 lumen projector. 720p is fine (our movie is 1080p but we'll be playing it through a laptop). I can't figure out what I need for a lens. Obviously it depends on the projector and what kind of lens it comes with.
We're severely restrained by price. The theater is cheap but even that is money we don't have. Any recommendations on a projector or rental company (MA,RI,CT preferably - something within driving distance) would be appreciated.
