Renter's insurance

Hi, I just bought an HPX-170 and I'm starting to accumulate equipment and I was wondering what kind of insurance you might buy for that. I'm not talking about location insurance because my filming right now consists of "student" movies and zero budget projects. (And by student movies I mean amateur movies I'm making in order to learn how to use my camera!) I know some homeowners insurance covers stuff like snomobiles and snow blowers even if they are stolen or damaged off your property. I was wondering if you could use renter's insurance in the same manner.

I already checked with my auto policy and they told me they'd cover about $200 bucks if anything was ever stolen in my car and that to get more I should check into renter's insurance.

Thanks!

You can get renter's insurance, sure. Different deductables cover different ranges. Call a local insurance broker and they'll point you in the right direction.

(though I would probably look into how to make the insurance tax-deductable too, assuming you've made any money from the equipment)
