Looking for a woman
i'm sure most people who visit youtube regularly have heard of renetto. he's been on youtube for some time and has posted a lot of videos, drawing a substantial number of subscribers. recently he has been posting videos where he recites essays from various authors. he is getting the essays from a series produced by npr.
one of these readings sparked lot of debate and he angered a lot of people. for the reading, he put brown makeup on his skin and used some lipstick for his lips. (the essay was by an african american woman). here is a link to the video he posted. unfortunately it is currently set to private.

i assume the reason it was taken down from public viewing is because he got called out for copyright infringment in a video by this gentleman.

the reason i'm bringing this up is because it deals with several issues that we face as film makers. what are the limits in terms of content? where do you draw the line as far as producing material that could offend others? what about infringement on sites such as youtube? the vast majoirty of the videos on youtube are likely produced without permission. what's okay and what's not?
UPDATE: renetto has since made a video explaining the situation.
