Rendering

Is it better to render clips individually or in a batch render? The reason I would consider rendering individually is in case a file becomes corrupted, it would (I speculate) affect only a single clip, not an entire timeline. The repercussions of a batch render on a project have proven catastrophic for me in the past. What are your thoughts or experiences?

Are you reffering to batch render or batch capture. I'm a little confused with your question but i'll do my best to share my various interpretations:

1-Batch Capture
I do this all the time and enjoy it quite a bit. Providing you have enough free space on your capture drive i just go through my DV tape marking in/out of each clip and then when I'm done I batch capture the all the clips while I go rest my eyes. I haven't not had any corruption issues. Just make sure the timecode on your DV tape doesn't have any time code breaks. those are a pain and will halt your batch capture.

2-Batch render
When rendering multiple sequences in a project i select them all and then use Export to Compressor. Doing this does a batch render and i have yet to have any problems with that method.

3-If i was to delete all my captured files and re-open the project down the road i would probably batch capture providing my "reels" are indicated ie. 001, 002 etc. so i know which DV tape to put it. If i wasn't sure i would capture them individually.

This is the best i can do in regards to your question unless you could elaborate more.

Hope it helps,

I think he just means rendering clips once by one in a timeline or all the timeline at once. I dont think it makes much of a difference. Sometimes one by one is better so you can look at the clip and if u dont like it u can rerender.
