Rendering

I have heard that the rendering in Premiere is REALLY bad. I do not actually own Premiere right now but I am thinking about purchasing it. I want to make sure that what I am getting is going to be worth the $700. Now my other alternative here would be FCP. But the issue is that I am on a Windows right now and i would rather just be able to stick to that and use premiere. But can you guys give me an honest opinion on which one you think is better? And do you think that it is worth it for me to pay for a new Mac and have to pay for FCP too? Right now i dont think it is.

What do you mean by "rendering in Premiere is REALLY bad"

Rendering is a fact of life. ( There is even rendering in Photoshop). If you make some changes to an image/clip and you want to save that altered image/clip it will need rendering and FCP is no different in that regard.

Try FCP befoire you buy it. I have both and I know which I prefer. YOu maybe different.

I used FCP a lot in a media class that i took in the 8th grade (but that was a while ago) and I am currently doing a trial version for Premiere. But i heard in an interview with the director of Juno where he mentioned that the render time for Premeire was really slow so i was just wondering if it was a drastic difference between the 2.

Well it depends on what you put INTO premere, what camera are you getting, what project are you doing, how far are you taking your sound post and what machine are you installing it onto?

By the time i purchase Premiere i will probably already have a DVX100 so that is the type of camera i would use on it. I have no worries about running it really, my computer would definitely be able to handle it. I would do almost all of my projects on it and I would probably use it for audio too. I havent plyed with it enough but does it have any good audio capabilities? or would you reccomend doing audio on a different program?

It's audio capabilities are nothing to brag about, but unless you're going to be doing anything big on it, you should be fine using that and freeware such as Audacity. Just to let you know, you can get it for a much cheaper price Academically, if that applies to you.

The audio capabilities are more than adequate and most likely exceed your requirements.

If not - second party apps abound but I doubt you will find the need.

alright well that sounds good. I already have Audacity actually i have been using it for quite a while now. Right now I am still in Highschool, and i am planning on attending a film school but for the rest of my years in Highschool and just for personal use later on i thought that Premiere would most likely suit my needs.
