rendering, xha1, bad quality

I look at other stuff edited with vegas, shot with an xha1 + a lens adapter and it all looks much higher quality than mine. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I'm determined to find out, because it makes no sense for my footage to end up the way it is.

some examples of my work can be found at www.vimeo.com/nicholasoliver and http://exposureroom.com/members/nholiver/

I'm using vegas 9. rendering out to sony avc, 5mbs, 1.000 pixel aspect ratio, 1280x720.

this is driving me insaaaane. I just can't figure out the perfect combination of settings for the best quality of my footage. any help is so greatly appreciated. this is bringing me down, guys.

I don't see the image quality of my work being the same as that of other XHA1 users.

OK, but that doesn't help. "Image quality" can mean a lot of things, many of them subjective. Can't make any suggestions if we don't know what's wrong.
