Rendering ? Which Pulldown?

I shot in 24p (scene file 5), edited in Vegas on a 29.97 fps timeline. I have to render a full quality .avi for a contest. Which pulldown should I use?

I read the whitepaper, but it was a little confusing:

"...use 2-3 pulldown when the file will be used for playback or other use and the 2-3-3-2 pulldown if the file is intended to be brought back into Vegas..."

1) What are the other uses?
2) Is the 2-3-3-2 pulldown proprietary? What if they want to edit in another NLE?

If this is your final render that will be viewed then you should use 2-3. This is the standard pull down for 24p to 60i.

The 2-3-3-2 pulldown is less CPU intensive, so it is mainly used for editing. This is the equilivant of the 24p advanced mode of the DVX100.

To add to the truth, 2:3:3:2 pulldown is lossless. So you can reimport the video and regain all the progressive frames without any information loss.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't need a pulldown (the camera did it with the 24p). I was viewing my rendered .AVI in Windows Media Player, which couldn't keep up with the bit rate so I saw these interlace artifacts and freaked out. Everything was fine when I brought the rendered .AVI back into Vegas.

Why are you editing in a 29.97 timeline? If you have 24p material, you should edit on a 24p timeline.

You'll have interlace-artifacted frames on a 29.97 timeline (because of the pulldown). You won't on a 24p timeline.
