Rendering too much

I'm finding that if I apply more then 2 filters to my video, FC will not playback, even when set to "low" for quality. This is sort of a pain and I'm having to render constantly.

Do they make any hardware or maybe a video card that will make the real-time playback better?

I'm using FCP HD

Re: Rendering too much

I think one of my problems is that I have too many color adjustments applied while editing. I need to not add any filters untill all my editing is done and then go back and add color correcting. Trying this way now and it's working better.

Re: Rendering too much

Ya, that thing should be smokin fast even with color correction filters. I only run a 1.33 powerbook right now with a Gig of ram and it runs pretty darn smooth.... especially with just color correction/levels/ect..

But yes, edit first followed by correction, filters, effects last (at least that's the way I work) which dramatically cuts down on inbetween renders when all you have is a powerbook.

Re: Rendering too much

That's cool. Ya I'm also using Joe's Filters too and his are a little more indepth. Since using his I've noticed more dropouts. That "Diffuser" has a blur filter in it and I know blurring can take a TON of CPU. After disabling the Effects it runes pretty smooth. Transisions are fast.

Is there any convenient way you know of to color correct, say, numerous bits from the same original clip once they're scattered around your timeline?

Re: Rendering too much

convienient? No, in this case I would render the footage in a different sequence and just color correct it there, then cut it up into "bits" as you put it.
