Rendering/timeline question

I'm working on this film I did over the summer.. at which point I was using an hv20 instead of my hmc150 which I'm using now. When I work with footage on the hmc.. I rarely have to render when I make changes such a keyframes.

With this project.. even doing changes such as adding a video filter causes me to have to render before I do anything else. I checked my sequence settings and they match the settings of the video in the timeline. Is something wrong having me be forced to render each time I do a small change?

Thanks

They are two different codecs, the HMC150 uses AVCHD, the HV20 uses HDV. Chances are that your HV20 footage needs more processing.

That was probably confusing when I brought in the discussion of the hmc. The footage isn't mixed. Everything I'm working with is from the hv20. Would you be able to clarify what you mean by "processing?"

The footage from just about any camera has some sort of compression. It takes processing power to convert that footage into the video that can be displayed. In addition, you may have to process it further to change frame rates, interlacing, etc. Those changes are probably why editing different footage gives a different experience in your NLE.
Usually HDV footage edits faster than AVCHD, but if you are changing resolution/framerate/pulldown that would make a difference. If you want to edit more quickly, you can try putting your footage in an intermediate codec. It will take up more space and might cost image detail, but it will speed up renders.
