Rendering Speed

I use a P4 2.5 ghz with 512 rambus ram. The video card is a ATI radeon 9000. I find that when I apply a few effects/filters in Premiere Pro 1.5 it takes an awfully long time to render.

Does anyone have a quick fix or suggestion to speed up the rendering time?

Do the more expensive video cards take the load off of the processor? ..... or is it only for display purposes..ie gaming etc.

Is a capture card like the Matrox RTextreme a possible solution?

TIA

Re: Rendering Speed

Quick fix? Probably not. But try the following:

1. Optimize your A/V hard drive.
2. If you have more than one drive, move your A/V rendering to a different drive than your OS/system drive.
3. Free up your memory by not running other apps.
4. Make sure your have your anti virus software disabled. Especially the setting to check disk read/writes.
5. Adding memory to your computer may help. Use the performance monitor/task manager to look at memory useage when rendering. Are you reaching your limit and causing disk swapping to occur. You need more memory then. It's cheap and easy to install. Well worth the money.

Your video card is plenty fast but won't help with rendering. It will help when viewing on screen.

Your precessor is a little slow for fast rendering. I have a 3.4mhz with HT and rendering is still slow when certain effects are applied. But, I normally use my Matrox RTX100 for rendering.

A card such Matrox's will provide you with real time rendering. But, these systems are very picky about your hardware configuration. Check out Matrox's site for info on recommended hardware configs.
