Rendering Quicktime H.264 file from Vegas 7

So I've got the latest Quicktime Pro 7.3, as well as Vegas 7 on my system. Unfortunately, when I render out an uncompressed AVI (like I used to) from Vegas, and then render the H.264 file via Quicktime, the sound is now not being read by Quicktime ... so it's of course exporting out the .mov files also with no audio.

So I'm thinking I SHOULD be able to simply render directly out from Vegas 7 to a Quicktime 7 file, but I don't have H.264 as a codec option. It defaults to that stinking Sorenson 3, and when I look for the other codecs, I see H.261 and H.263, but NO H.264.

What gives? If my initial drop down option for rendering to has Quicktime 7 (vs. the older versions of Vegas had Quicktime 6), why can't I see the H.264 codec?

Anyone have any work around ideas?

Okay, but then it's an mp4, not a .mov file. I know the compression is comparable, but to my understanding the .mov/H.264 is more robust/better, not to mention plays more easily for most vs. some have issues with mp4.

It is not the .mov container that helps the decoding being "easier", but the different encoder that Apple uses. So, just use the .mp4 that's presented to you by the NLE. The .mov won't help you make it play faster.

The .mp4 rendered by vegas actually is H.264! Better yet, H264 is MPEG4. You're confusing the file container with what's actually contained in the container. Did that make sense?
