Rendering Question

I shot some footage with DVX 100A and used the SQUEEZE setting. I brought the footage in to VEGAS 6 using the template for 24p Widescreen. When I render using this setting, the actors are stretched vertically. Should I be rendering using 24p (without the widescreen setting) even though I want the film to be in widescreen?

Thanks,

Jeff

How exactly are you rendering? What's the template, the settings, and which check boxes are checked on the render dialog box?

I'm using the standard template provided by VEGAS for the timeline. It's the 24p DVD Architect NTSC Streaming Widescreen... I rendered it using the template for 24p NTSC (without Widescreen) and it looks right on my computer and on a projector, but I'm not sure if it will have the same effect on TV. This just seems odd that I filmed in Widescreen, brought it in in Widescreen, but have to render not in widescreen... is this right?

No. You used the correct template. When you burn it to DVD, it will play fine.

It looks the way it does because it's meant to be stretched horizontally on a widescreen TV. If you're not watching on a widescreen TV, your DVD player will "squash" it for you and display it correctly.

On my computer, I'm just playing it through the internal DVD drive. From the projector, I'm playing it on a really expensive unit at my law school. It plays on a huge screen, which is nice to see how it would look on the "big screen" if it ever makes it there. On both the computer monitor and from the projector, the footage is stretched vertically.

I rendered some of the footage using the not-widescreen setting and it plays the way I wanted it... widescreen, no stretching. Go figure.

Are you setting up a widescreen DVD project in DVD Architect? If you aren't, you'll get exactly the behavior you're describing.
