for HDV playback on a 1080i tv, select mpeg2 and then the HDV 60i preset.(this is the format your camera shoots in so you will get best results from these settings) go into the custom tab and move the quality slider to the highest setting. also set the video render quality to best.
for playback on a progressive screen (ex. your computer) set the field order to progressive. for 1080P playback, vegas's blu-ray presets(in mpeg2) do the trick you should have em if your running vegas 7. remember to select the right frame rate and either progressive of interlaced. just a heads up - rendering native 1440x1080 60i into 1920x1080 24P doesn't give you good results.
