Rendering HD footage

Hello,
I recently imported my hd footage from my p2 card into fcp using the p2 import option. Is it suposed to need rendering just dropping it onto the timeline or am I doing something wrong? it's kinda weird that just putting a clip onto the timeline would need rendering. help!
 
I am assuming you are 5.0 or better. I am also assuming you are importing as "Panasonic P2". What might be the problem is if it is not native footage, you need to check the "Remove duplicate/adv. pull down frames" at the botton of the window. Your timeline should also be exactly how you shot it.

Does that help? There are a few more varibles to look at, but I don't know all you are doing.
 
If you EVER have to render a raw, unflitered, uneffected clip in an FCP Sequence, the Sequence settings and clip settings do not match. The ONLY exception to this is if you create customized Sequence settings (a set of settings that do not come as an FCP pre-set) to match some weird clip settings you imported. And even then, it depends on the hardware you run it on.

Your Sequence settings do not match your clip settings. You should not have to render DVCPRO-HD footage in a DVCPRO-HD Sequence.
